IEC 62133 Test

From:Shenzhen STS test services Co., Ltd. Hits:4996 Createtime:2017-06-02

In December 2012, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) officially released the international safety standard for IEC613133, IEC 62133: 2012 (ed2.0), for international safety standards for battery products. This standard is mainly for alkaline or non-acidic electrolyte solution of the battery and battery pack and portable sealed single battery and battery pack safety requirements (including lithium batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries and other types).
The new version of IEC 62133 test part is divided into two sections: nickel battery system and lithium battery system, this paper to lithium battery system as an example to introduce the main changes.
In the test project added a mandatory internal short circuit, overcharge (pack), transport testing and other test items and lithium battery design recommendations. At the same time on the charging step, continuous low-voltage charging test items were updated.

The updated charging step

According to the requirements of the new IEC 62133, when the batteries test the following three external short circuit, thermal shock, extrusion, and battery test external short circuit, the battery or battery charge need to charge temperature maximum and minimum time.

Added mandatory internal short circuit test

The purpose of the test is to simulate the batteries in the manufacturing process may enter the metal dust, scrap particles and other impurities, between the positive and negative piercing the diaphragm caused by the internal short-term potential risk. The test object for cylindrical or prismatic batteries. Currently the test is only applicable to South Korea, Japan, Switzerland and France.

New shipping test

According to the new IEC 62133 requirements, lithium batteries in accordance with IEC 62281 requirements through the relevant tests, the test project and UN38.3 test items are the same. Therefore, if the manufacturer can provide documents that demonstrate compliance with the UN transport requirements, the transport test may be tested without direct testing of the transport test.

The IEC 62133 standard mainly includes the following tests:

(Thermal shock), squeeze, low pressure, overcharge, forced discharge, shock, temperature, High rate charge protection function (lithium system), marking and packaging, transport testing, improper installation (nickel system).
Battery: vibration, high temperature shell stress, temperature cycling, external short circuit, internal short circuit, free fall, impact (collision), marking and packaging, transport test, overcharge (nickel system).
Most of these tests and validation projects are common routine test items, but there are still some items worth noting and attention:
1.13KN squeeze. This test object is a battery, although it is a common conventional project, but because of its clear requirements for the square batteries need to squeeze long, short axis, the cell length and width of the two planes. According to the test experience, polymer flexible packaging batteries in the extrusion width of the axis (side), when there are burning or explosion and other unqualified phenomenon. Therefore, for the polymer flexible packaging batteries, it is recommended to focus on this project.
2. Continuous low rate charging. This test object is a cell. The standard specifies that the fully charged batteries are continuously charged for 28 days in accordance with the manufacturer's charging method. This project is not common in other safety standards, in view of the battery manufacturers are basically charging the constant current constant voltage charging, which requires manufacturers to limit the charge current and even full charge when the cut-off voltage to be fully considered, If necessary, to be considered in the design of the battery resistance to continuous charging capacity.
De Puhua test battery laboratory to carry out a number of standard battery testing services, such as UN38.3, Wercs registration, EN / IEC 62133 test. In view of the complexity of the manufacture of batteries and batteries and the detection of finished products, it is recommended that the battery manufacturer know the details of the standard before testing and verify it in the production so as not to meet the requirements of EN / IEC 62133 in the final inspection And delay the final listing time of battery products.
