EU to update scope of WEEE for EEE products

Starting on August 15, 2018, 2012/19/EU, the EU Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE Directive), will become applicable to all electrical and electronic products. The product classification will be reclassified from the original 10 categories to 6 categories and will need to meet the new loop recovery (3R) requirements.


Update Categories of EEE products


The extension of the scope to include all electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) which classified within the 6 categories set out in Annex III (open scope) start from 15 August 2018 with additional exceptions (listed in Article 2 (3) & (4)).

Marking requirement


The WEEE Directive requires products to be labelled with a crossed-out wheeled bin identification in accordance with EN 50419. It also requires producers to register in their local countries where the product is listed and regularly reporting the number of products to be marketed and the quantity of electronic waste collected, recycled, recycled and discarded.

Size: 1.5a >5mm

Location: The markings shall be accessible, durable, legible and indelible on the product, If the size, functionality or other characteristics of the product prevent the markings being applied, it shall be printed on the packaging, instruction and warranty.
